BIK carries out its activity pursuant to the Act of 29 August 1997 - Banking Law. The law stipulates that banks acting jointly with bank chambers of commerce may establish an institution authorised to process and make available information to banks and other institutions statutorily authorised to grant credits and loans under certain conditions laid down in the Act.

Information collected and made available by BIK encompasses personal data protected under the Personal Data Protection Act of 29 August 1997.
The taking effect of the Act on Sharing and Disclosure of Economic Information enabled the establishment of cooperation with Economic Information Bureaus and expansion of the scope of information disclosed in Credit Reports to the data collected by these Bureaus.
Furthermore, pursuant to Art. 68 section 4 of the Act on Electronic Payment Instruments, BIK may collect and make available to their issuers information concerning the holders of electronic payment instruments.
President of the Management Board
President of Biuro Informacji Kredytowej S.A. Management Board (BIK)
Mr. Mariusz Cholewa is a graduate of the University of Gdańsk, the Faculty of Management. In 2005 he obtained his PhD Degree in Economics. He also completed postgraduate studies in Banking and Finance, with the specialisation in Investment Banking, conducted by the London Guidhall University, the Gdańsk Banking Academy and the University of Gdańsk.
Between 1993 -1998 he cooperated with the Gdańsk Banking Academy, as a Management Board member, participating at the same time in the research on the financial restructuring of enterprises and banks pursued by the Gdańsk Institute of Market Economics. In the years 1995 -2003 he was an associate professor at the Faculty of Management at the University of Gdańsk. In the period of 2007 - 2010 he was the CEO of Bank Rozwoju Cukrownictwa S.A. In 1998 Mariusz Cholewa joined Bank Handlowy w Warszawie S.A. (Citi Handlowy), where he held a number of managerial positions, till April 2013 being the Director of the Strategy Department. Mariusz Cholewa was a supervisory board member of a number of companies: banks, investment and insurance companies including public granted companies. In the years 2012 – 2013 he was a member of Biuro Informacji Kredytowej S.A. Supervisory Board.
Mr. Mariusz Cholewa has been the President of the BIK Management Board since June 2013. He is also the President of the Supervisory Board of BIG InfoMonitor S.A. - Economic Information Bureau and Digital Fingerprints S.A.
Since May 2020 he has been the President of the Management Board of ACCIS, the largest association of credit registers in the world.
Vice-President of the Management Board
Graduate of the Warsaw School of Economics, the Faculty of Finance and Banking (2002). He also completed postgraduate studies, Blockchain, Smart Contracts and Digital Currencies (2019) conducted by Warsaw School of Economics.
From 2001 Mr. Sławomir Grzelczak worked for the international company Dun&Bradstreet – a leading business intelligence agency, where he held key managerial functions. In the period of 2002 – 2004 he was Chief Operational Officer, and in 2004–2009 he held the function of the President of the Management Board of the Polish branch office. In the years 2009–2012 he was managing the BISNODE Group, a strategic partner of the business intelligence agency, D&B Corporation. He developed his experience in improving business processes by managing four member companies of the BISNODE Group. From 2012 to April 2013, he was responsible for 12 Central and Eastern Europe markets in the Group of Coface Central Europe Holding, a leader in credit insurance. He was responsible for the new product development and coordination of activities in the field of economic information. In the same period, he was the managing director of Coface Slovenia.
Since April 2013, he has been a member of the Biuro Informacji Kredytowej S.A. Management Board, responsible for the Non-banking Business Area.
In July 2013, he has been appointed the Vice-President of BIK Management Board, responsible for the Corporate Business Area, the non-banking and e-commerce sector. Supervises the development of offerings for the SME sector and the growth of the area of Business Intelligence.
Between 2020 and 2022 he was the member of the Council of The Association of Financial Companies in Poland (ZPF).
From June 2014 until the end of 2024, he was the President of the BIG InfoMonitor S.A. Management Board – the Economic Information Bureau.
Since 2025, he has been a member of the Supervisory Board of the BIG InfoMonitor S.A.
Vice-President of the Management Board
A graduate of mathematics at the Faculty of Science of the Pedagogical University of Siedlce (currently the University of Natural Sciences and Humanities) and Executive MBA studies at the University of Warsaw.
Since 2013, she has been associated with the BIK Group as the Managing Director of the IT Area.
She gained her extensive experience in banking. Started in the IT area, between 1993 - 2000 at AmerBank S.A. (DZ Bank). From 2001–2010, she held a number of managerial positions at Raiffeisen Bank Polska, responsible for the area of project management, development and maintenance of IT systems. Then she was deputy IT director, responsible for development and projects at Deutsche Bank PBC. From 2011 - 2013, she was the director of the IT Department at Kredyt Bank. She improved in the areas of management, finance and IT, completing, among others, Harvard Business Review Management Academy as well as PMI, CMMI and ITIL Foundation training. In 2018, she was awarded the CIO Diamond for sectoral innovation, ranking in the top three best IT heads in Poland.
From July 2019 to December 2022, as vice president of BIG InfoMonitorS.A, she was responsible for managing processes related to data quality and economic information in the BIG InfoMonitor database, automation of operational processes and for supervising the IT project department.
As the Managing Director of the IT Area of the BIK Group, she implements the concept of close cooperation between IT and business, including: through project management using agile methodologies. Supervises and is responsible for the development of the Group's IT infrastructure, engages in and actively supports technological solutions and anti-fraud solutions, including the development of platform sectoral solutions.
From November 17, 2022, she took up the position of president of the management board of Digital Fingerprints S.A.
Since January 2025, she has joined the Management Board of BIK as Vice President. She manages the IT Area, also being responsible for the development of the BIK Group’s Anti-Fraud services.
